Choose the kind of stay before the campsite

A one-night tent stop and ten family holiday nights need different facilities. Write down three essentials, such as quiet sleep, walking to the beach or cooking. An impressive pool cannot fix an exhausting daily journey. Without a car, check the last stretch from the station, grocery shopping and evening return, not just a bus-stop symbol on a map.

Read the campsite map before choosing a pitch

Ask for the map and locate the entrance, bar, stage, playground, washrooms and vehicle routes. Being near the washrooms is convenient but can mean more foot traffic; the far end may be quieter but involve a long walk. Ask when your pitch gets sunlight and whether it is actually shaded. A wooded campsite does not guarantee a tree over your tent.

Compare the same booking including extras

The headline price may be per pitch, per person or a package. Rebuild the total for your party, dates, vehicle, electricity and listed fees. Purely hypothetical example: €22 for a pitch, €12 for two adults and €5 electricity make €39, not €22. Compare that with an inclusive package. Cancellation, deposits and cleaning for rental accommodation matter alongside nightly cost.

Check what is actually open on your dates

An open campsite does not mean its pool, shuttle, restaurant and activities are open. This matters especially near the start or end of a season. Ask directly about the facility you need and keep the reply. Check arrival times and vehicle-gate closure too. If you need an electric hookup, confirm the required equipment rather than buying a random adapter.

Look around before setting up

Before unpacking, check the ground, routes and space needed for your setup. If the pitch differs from what was described, ask reception immediately; moving is easier before pitching. Follow local and campsite restrictions, especially concerning fire. This guide concerns a stay on an authorised campsite, not permission to camp elsewhere.
