Check accepted voltage first

A charger marked 100–240 V will generally work on common mains voltages with the right mechanical adapter. A 110–120 V-only appliance can be damaged on 230 V without suitable conversion.

Universal is not always lightest

If you travel only within Europe or only to the UK, a small destination-specific adapter can be lighter, cheaper and more stable in the wall than a universal cube.

USB-C changes the decision

An adapter with a real GaN USB-C charger can replace several wall bricks. For laptops, check output wattage per port when several devices are connected.

A voltage converter is a different product

The FOVAL option solves a different problem: changing voltage for certain appliances. It is heavier and unnecessary when all your chargers are already dual-voltage.

Our rule

EPICKA or Matador for multi-continent travel, Anker Nano for minimalism, Ceptics for simple destination plugs and Satechi when you also want to replace a multiport charger.
